Delaware County EMS Station & Sheriff Substation

K2M Design is providing planning and design services for a new combined EMS station, sheriff substation, and backup 911 dispatch center for Delaware County, Ohio. The project is replacing the existing EMS Station 3, a 1,100-square-foot facility originally constructed in 1968 as a volunteer fire department garage and later converted for EMS use. The outdated building no longer supports modern emergency medical operations due to limited apparatus space and inadequate crew accommodations. The new facility serves as a regional public safety hub that supports EMS operations, sheriff patrol activities, and resilient emergency communications for a rapidly growing area of the county.

The building includes living quarters for 24-hour EMS crews, operational space for a portion of the Sheriff’s Office patrol division, and a fully equipped backup 911 dispatch center capable of supporting up to ten dispatch consoles during emergencies or outages affecting the county’s primary communications center. The facility also includes shared training and briefing space that can function as an Emergency Operations Center during major incidents and supports future personnel growth and increasing service demands.

K2M Design works closely with county leadership, EMS administrators, sheriff command staff, and information technology personnel to develop a building program and layout that reflects the operational needs of each agency. The design integrates the three public safety functions while maintaining appropriate security and operational separation between departments and prioritizes efficient workflow, health and safety, and durable materials that support long-term operational reliability.
